When Brandon Roy left Washington in 2006, he was the type of throwback player folks wanted to enshrine. On Thursday, the Huskies will do that, retiring his No. 3 jersey before UW faces USC at Edmundson Pavilion.
Roy, who starred at Garfield High, led Washington to three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, including back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances before graduating in 2006.
He finished as the Huskies’ 10th all-time scorer (1,477) and is sixth in assists (308).
“I’m getting a little nervous about it,” said Roy, who has the phrase “Stay Humble” on a post-it above his Blazers locker. “I’ve always dreamed that hopefully one day I could get my jersey retired. I didn’t know what level — high school, college, or NBA. It’s a huge honor and it’s definitely not just me. It’s says what our team did during that time.”
