With the season just over a week away, the Blazers gave their starters more minutes and the results were evident. Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge, and Greg Oden all saw extensive minutes in the Blazer’s 112-98 exhibition victory over the Sacramento Kings on Monday night, and all three players had arguably their best pre-season game. Brandon played 34 minutes and scored 21 points, shooting 8-15 from the floor. Brandon also went 3-4 from downtown, working nicely with the Blazer’s big men to get open when his teammates faced double teams.
While most Blazers fans were excited to see the first unit get so much time playing together, Brandon was impressed with what he saw in the Blazer’s second unit, including another highlight reel alley-oop from Sergio Rodriguez to Rudy Fernandez.
“The second unit has an identity right now,” Brandon said after the game. “They’re a good team and they are going to be big for us. Rudy takes big shots, Travis takes big shots. You need two lineups. We’re going to need our second unit to keep getting better because we are only going to be as good as they are.”
The Blazers have exhibition games Wednesday and Thursday before tipping off the regular season on October 28th in Los Angeles.
